Facebook's app for iOS has received a big update that brings the ability to tag friends and places in posts, to share external links from a web view, a new design for Profile and Group walls, and more.

Facebook for iPhone makes it easy to stay connected and share information with friends. Use your iPhone to start a conversation with Facebook Chat, check your friends' latest photos and status updates, look up a phone number, or upload your own mobile photos to Facebook while on the go.

Facebook Messenger Soars to Top Free iPhone App

So far it seems Facebook’s Messenger app is a hit. After launching just Tuesday afternoon, it’s already the number-one free app in the iTunes App Store.

The iOS app has more than 600 customer reviews and with 900 ratings has 3.5 of five stars.

The app has the potential to chip away at the hold of cell carriers. It allows users to send messages and texts through the 750-million-member social network, and it updates in real time, so there’s no need to refresh to see if you’ve received new messages.

“This is replacing text messages in my dock!” one iOS reviewer wrote.

The negative reviews in both the App Store and the Android Market are mostly critical of Facebook now having two apps (though the company told Mashable it does plan to integrate the new message functionality into the main app) and of the fact that Messenger isn’t an instant message app.

Facebook Fires Back at Google+ With New Gaming Features

Facebook has unveiled a slew of new features for Facebook games just hours after Google launched its gaming platform.

The first feature, the Game Ticker, transforms the right-hand Facebook Chat column into a newsfeed of friends’ game activity. The column displays what games your friends are playing as well as their achievements and high scores. It’s designed to be social, so clicking on a Game Ticker story takes you to that game so you can play with your friends. And just like Facebook News Feed, you can control which stories appear and don’t appear in the stream.

The world’s largest social network also introduced a new expanded-screen mode for games. Current players of social games will appreciate the added real estate for harvesting their crops or attacking their enemies. The final addition to Facebook’s gaming platform allows users to bookmark their favorite apps or games so they’re easily accessible from the News Feed.

The move is a counterattack to today’s launch of Google+ Games, which debuted Thursday with 16 games, including Angry Birds and Zynga Poker. It looks like the competition between the two Internet giants is getting even more intense.

Words With Friends [$1.99 / Free] is headed to Facebook. Social giant Zynga Games announced the platform flip this afternoon with a delightful teaser image. Normally, I’d be a little annoyed by the lack of information, but really, what is there to say? Words with Friends is an extremely simple riff on the Scrabble formula with basic visual do-dads and mechanics that we’ve been enjoying for quite a while on iOS.
I’d imagine the reason we don’t have many details here is tied into the fact that nothing meaningful has been changed, aside from the addition of new Facebook-y social elements.

I have installed Facebook for ipad last night and have tested it using only my 3g network.
was able to check in quite fast but some pages or tabs like browsing photos, newsfeeds took quite a long while and then it crashed several times. Maybe that's why it's called "LEAKED"??lolx!

Facebook 'fatigue' strikes as millions shut accounts globally

London, June 14 (ANI): Privacy threats and fatigue has led 1lakh Britons and six million users in the US to shut down their Facebook accounts, with the same pattern expected to follow in other countries too.

Facebook's growth rate has slowed for a second month in a row, ironically, when the social networking site was aiming to reach its goal of one billion active users.

Canada saw a fall of about 1.5 million users of the website, while in Russia and Norway numbers fell by more than 100,000 users.

The company is now relying on developing countries to boost its numbers.

Blogs are abuzz with speculations that the website could one day 'sputter into oblivion,' fearing the fate of its failing rival MySpace.

There is a point at which the site can no longer grow, once it has established itself in a country, according to Eric Eldon, from the website 'Inside Facebook', which obtained the figures.

"By the time Facebook reaches around 50 pc of the total population in a given country, growth generally slows to a halt," the Daily Mail quoted him as saying.

Internet psychologist Graham Jones has predicted that Facebook users would suffer the same kind of 'fatigue' that comes whenever men and women get bored with trying anything that is new.

"People get terribly excited about something new and after a while the novelty wears off," he explained. (ANI)

Facebook founder changes his status to 'in a relationship'

London, March 25 (ANI): Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has finally confirmed that he has been dating Priscilla Chan for the past seven years.

The 26-year-old has updated his Facebook status to 'in a relationship' to reflect the fact he is taken, reports the Daily Mail.

He added that the change had been "long overdue" but did not explain why he had waited so long.

Observers, however, have noted that often when couples become "in a relationship" on the social network and "engaged" status soon follows.

Zuckerberg and Chan, a Chinese-American from the Boston suburbs, started seeing each other when they were both studying at Harvard University.

Following the new update, Chan's Facebook page also revealed that the pair started their relationship on November 7, 2003, just days after Zuckerberg's infamous Facemash stunt at Harvard.

He was nearly expelled from the university after hacking into different colleges' websites and taking pictures of all the female students, placing them next to each other and asking other students to 'rate' their attractiveness. (ANI)

Delta Airlines Lets Customers Check In ; Get Flight Status via Facebook

Delta Airlines customers can now check in to flights on the company’s Facebook app.

From the Ticket Counter application, Delta customers starting today can now check SkyMiles and preview what amenities are available for various flights, too. Delta launched its its app back in August, at which time it was the first airline to allow users to book flights through the social network.

Delta also has mobile apps for iPhone, Android and BlackBerry that let users check in for flights, or get the status of a flight or gate number. However, the integration with Facebook means that it’s one less place some users will need to visit.

Using the app, which was developed by 8thBridge, boarding passes can be printed from the Facebook, just like on the website. Delta also lets users share details about their travel plans or itineraries with users over Facebook. For people who check Facebook more often than e-mail, this is a great way to share flight or trip details.

We really like the fact that you can log in to your SkyMiles account, buy tickets and print boarding passes from Facebook. But we would love to see true integration between a SkyMiles account and Facebook — in other words, an option to connect the two systems. I almost never remember my SkyMiles number, but if the two were linked, I could log in with my PIN and last name and be on my way.

Mark Zuckerberg’s Puppy Gets a Facebook Page [PICS]

Woow! Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg loves dogs too.
He got a new puppy named Beast and created his own fan page.

Beast, a fluffy white Puli, got his own Facebook Page, which features pictures of the Facebook CEO and founder and his girlfriend, Priscilla Chan, holding and playing with the pup. So far, Beast has gotten about 2,000 “likes.” Zuckerberg and Chan are listed as the Page owners. Facebook reps could not be reached for comment on the Page’s authenticity.

Finally! Facebook "Places" is active in Singapore!

Some of my friends have been asking me on how to do this so I thought it's cool to add this little tutorial in here.

First, you need to make sure your Location services is active or been turned on.
To check, go to "Settings" in your iphone.

Click "General" then activate "Location Services to On".

You will have options which app you want to activate the service. I only chose few iphone apps like geo-location services app FourSquare and Gowalla because it drains alot of my iphone's battery.

You can now goto your Facebook profile and click "Places".

Facebook is NOT Shutting Down March 15

Ok everyone. Don't panic. Got this news from Mashable few hours ago.

There’s a silly rumor exploding on the Internet this weekend, alleging that Facebook is shutting down on March 15 because CEO Mark Zuckerberg “wants his old life back,” and desires to “put an end to all the madness.”

We’re seeking confirmation from Facebook, but until we get the official word, let’s think about this for a minute. Would Facebook announce a shutdown just a few days after announcing a round of funding, consisting of $450 million from Goldman Sachs and $50 million from Russian investment firm Digital Sky Technologies, on a valuation of $50 billion?

The spurious report was started by a site to which we refuse to link, known for its reports of impending attacks of alien spaceships and false reports of a Michelle Obama pregnancy.

The fact that this absurd hoax spread so efficiently makes us wonder: Will people believe anything?

As soon as we hear from Facebook, we’ll update this post.

It’s been four days since Facebook denied rumors that a Facebook phone was in development. We still believe that the social networking giant doesn’t currently have a branded mobile device in the works, but it’s worth re-examining the situation.
TechCrunch yesterday conducted a thorough interview with Facebook Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg regarding the rumor. A crucial part of the discussion occurs when Zuckerberg says:

“…we invest differently in different platforms depending on how big they are, and how many users are there. So, iPhone is the one we’re investing in the most now, and Android increasingly. If Windows Phone 7 takes off, then I’m sure we’ll put resources on that.

And maybe we’ll build specific apps for iPhone and Android. And then, for something that is as important as iPhone or Android, we’ll also build integration into the operating system. So for iPhone, we built in contact syncing, and for Android we integrated and did contact syncing pretty seamlessly. The question is – what could we do if we also started hacking at a deeper level, and that is a lot of the stuff that we’re thinking about.”

The statement is a concise overview of Facebook’s current approach to mobile, especially as it pertains to hardware. It outlines Facebook’s strategy to develop applications for prominent mobile platforms and, when it makes sense, work toward deeper mobile integrations for enhanced social experiences.

The story should have ended there — but, of course, it didn’t. Bloomberg decided to get involved, writing, “Facebook Inc. is working with mobile-handset manufacturer INQ Mobile Ltd. on two smartphones that may be carried by AT&T Inc., according to three people familiar with the matter.”

Bloomberg’s report was enough to make TechCrunch question its own interview with Zuckerberg. The chain reaction has sent everyone back to speculating about the Facebook phone. The thing is, Facebook has been working with INQ for a couple of years now — it’s well-known that the companies share a common investor in Chinese billionaire Li Ka-Shing.

When INQ Mobile released the INQ1 back in December of 2008, the level at which Facebook was integrated led many at the time to describe it as “the Facebook Phone.” Zuckerberg was even quoted in a statement from INQ saying, “We are really happy to be working with INQ to bring its customers a deeply-integrated Facebook experience on the new INQ1 handset.”

In the two years since the INQ1 was released, Facebook has made a major play for mobile audiences. According to Facebook’s stats, Facebook Mobile currently has more than 150 million mobile users accessing the site with at least 200 mobile providers working to deploy and promote Facebook Mobile products. This isn’t a surprise; by all accounts, mobile is the next big digital frontier.

Facebook may very well release a phone some day, but that day isn’t today and now isn’t the time. What we have here is some exaggerated excitement over a relationship that has been around for years. So is Facebook still working with INQ? Yes, most definitely. But Facebook and INQ continuing to work with one another doesn’t mean that they’re preparing to release a Facebook Phone anytime soon.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is now richer than Apple CEO Steve Jobs, according to the latest Forbes 400 rankings.
This year, Zuckerberg, 26, added $4.9 billion to his fortune–vaulting to #35 on the Forbes 400 with an estimated fortune of $6.9 billion. Why the jump? Recent private equity investments in Facebook valued the firm at around $23 billion–more than triple its 2009 value of $7 billion. Illiquid private shares in secondary markets point to an even richer valuation.

Steve Jobs ranks #42 on the list with a net worth of $6.1 billion; $1 billion higher than last year.

RIP Facebook Gifts

Facebook is winding down its “Gift Shop” feature, the company announced today. Facebook Gifts will stop operating on August 1, although gifts you’ve received previously will remain on your wall.

It’s a surprising move from Facebook, who stands to become a significant player in online transactions thanks to Facebook Credits. Given that gifting is a great advertisement for the benefit of making transactions on Facebook, we can only imagine that giving Gifts is wildly unpopular. Facebook Credits perhaps doesn’t need a helping hand, either: The rapid rise of Facebook games has assured the success of the Credits scheme.

If you’re into gifting on Facebook, you still have a few options: Birthday Cards and Pieces of Flair to name a couple.

Facebook Will Add a “Panic Button” for UK Teens [via Mashable]

Facebook will help UK teens fight cyber abuse and bullying by deploying a panic button on its sites. Teens will be encouraged to click it when suspicious that they’re being targeted for abuse.

The button will actually connect the teens with resources hosted by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP), an organization run in part by the UK government. Teens will be given advice and resources on dealing with potential threats on the Internet, and they may also report users who they believe are acting inappropriately toward them.

The tool will be advertised on the home pages of teenage Facebook users.

Why the Change?
A UK official joined the mother of murdered teenager Ashleigh Hall in a call for the deployment of the button on Facebook. The tool is already present on other sites, including Bebo. Facebook resisted joining them at first, claiming that it already offers reporting tools, but the BBC says that Facebook finally agreed to do it after 44 police chiefs signed a petition.

Advocates argue that integration with the well-established CEOP organization will help authorities take legal or police action more swiftly and accurately.

The button will be part of a larger application run by CEOP. We don’t have all the details yet, but we do know that there will also be a landing page with basic safety information for teenagers. Facebook already launched something similar on its own with the revamped Safety Center two months ago.

Potential Problems
Facebook rep Sophy Silver was quoted by the BBC saying that the reporting tool will act as a “viral awareness campaign” by informing your friends when something’s up too.

While we’re all for tools that help protect teenagers from sharing Ashleigh Hall’s fate, we’re concerned about the potential abuses of this tool. People will inevitably make errors when using it, and some might even abuse it as a means of harassment or humiliation against peers.

Here’s to hoping that there will be strong protections against that kind of abuse in the final product. Do you have any ideas about how Facebook and CEOP could make a system that protects teens but that isn’t ripe for abuse?

“FrontierVille” Already Has 5 Million Players

Apparently FarmVille meets Oregon Trail is a winning combination — Zynga’s FrontierVille game has reached five million active daily players on Facebook in less than two weeks.

FrontierVille launched on June 9 as a sort of spin-off to FarmVille, though it was developed by Zynga’s Baltimore studio — a different one than the one responsible for FarmVille. In fact, its lead designer is an esteemed strategy game designer known for his work on Civilization and Rise of Nations, according to VentureBeat.

The game adds some features and levels of complexity that its predecessor doesn’t have, such as the ability to control multiple avatars — an entire family.

The game’s huge initial growth is due in part to the way the game encourages players to invite their friends. When I signed up for the game, I was prompted to invite my Facebook friends three times in my first five minutes of play. Given the association with FarmVille (which has more than 200 million active users), it’s not a surprise that FrontierVille has spread quickly.

Note that Zynga says that five million is the number of “daily active” users, however. That’s not the same as the probably higher number of people who’ve at least signed up to begin with.

WARNING: Facebook Clickjacking Attack Spreading Through News Feed

A new clickjacking worm is spreading through Facebook via the “Like” feature. The attack, which is said to have hit hundreds of thousands of users, uses a combination of social engineering and clickjacking to make it appear as if a user has “liked” a link.

The messages that are being used in the link text include, “LOL This girl gets OWNED after a POLICE OFFICER reads her STATUS MESSAGE,” “This man takes a picture of himself EVERYDAY for 8 YEARS!!,” “The Prom Dress That Got This Girl Suspended From School” and “This Girl Has An Interesting Way Of Eating A Banana, Check It Out!”

When a user clicks on the text that appears to be “liked” he is taken to a blank page that just has the text, “Click here to continue.” Clicking anywhere on that page will then publish the same message to that users Facebook page.

This vector is extremely similar to the Fbhole worm that spread across Facebook 10 days ago. Because users unwittingly end up recommending the offending page to their social graph, this is the type of worm that can spread extremely quickly.

Security firm Sophos has identified the linked pages as being infected with the Troj/iframe-ET worm. It doesn’t appear as if the worm does anything other than add likes to your feed, but if you’ve been infected, you’ll still want to take action.

Sophos recommends deleting any entries in your news feed related to the links and check your profile and info pages to make sure that no links or pages related to those sites have been added to your profile.

Disney has created a new Facebook app that will let users buy tickets to see Toy Story 3 right on the site, while also inviting their friends along. The application is called Disney Tickets Together and is a brilliant example of social media synergy.

The app, which works in partnership with ticket-buying websites like Fandango.com, lets users pre-order tickets for the show and then invite others to join them. Users can also post what showing they are going to on their Facebook news feed.

This is the type of campaign that is a perfect fit for social media. Not only does the ability to buy tickets without leaving Facebook make impulse ticket buys more likely, but the social aspect makes group planning that much easier.

The nice thing about the Facebook app is that you can view what types of theaters are showing the film in your area (meaning 3D, stadium seating, IMAX 3D, etc.) and you can also invite along non-Facebook friends by entering in their e-mail address.

Tickets aren’t available for pre-order at all theaters but many more will be added next week.

WARNING: Facebook Malware Attack on the Loose!

A Facebook phishing attack is on the loose this weekend — the third widespread attack on the site in the past three weeks. The attack attempts to steal your Facebook login credentials, install malware on your computer, and even get your home address.

The attack is spread via a “hilarious video” posted to Facebook walls, reports WebSense — when clicked, a form appears requesting your Facebook login.

The attack then returns you to Facebook, installs an app called “Media Player HD”, and asks you to download the “FLV player” — doing so installs malware on your machine. It gets worse: Depending on your location, you may also be presented with a contest to win an iPad … if you just enter your home address.

To avoid getting caught, simply remove the “hilarious video” if you find it on your Facebook wall. If you see it elsewhere on Facebook, don’t click it … and of course remember the obvious rule: Don’t enter your Facebook login anywhere other than Facebook.com.

If you already fell for the attack, change your Facebook password, uninstall the Facebook app (often called “Media Player HD”), and run a virus/malware scan on your computer.

7-11 Starts Selling “FarmVille” Slurpees!!

7-11 will soon offer FarmVille-branded products that will unlock virtual, 7-11-branded items in the popular Facebook game. Two other games from game-maker Zynga will also get tie-ins with the stores: Mafia Wars and YoVille.

Seven thousand 7-11 stores will offer around 30 branded items, including Slurpees and ice cream, among other things. When a customer buys one of the promotional products, he or she will then be directed to perform some special task in the game world to acquire one of the 7-11 items.

This is the first retail partnership of this kind for Zynga, although this deal grew out of a more limited program in which the company sold FarmVille, Mafia Wars and YoVille (Yoville) game cards at 12,800 participating 7-11 stores. Zynga is no stranger to virtual branding promotions, either; it has been selling brand-sponsored FarmVille crops since last month.

The company has been very busy making deals over the past few weeks, actually; it just signed a five-year agreement with Facebook involving the use of Facebook’s proprietary virtual currency, and it is also launching games on MySpace (MySpace), including the new Bangkok expansion for Mafia Wars.

Kid Racks Up $1400 Debt in FarmVille

Oh dear — looks like it’s time to add FarmVille to the list of internet addiction scares after a 12-year-old UK boy has amassed £905 in FarmVille debt. About £288 of that came from the boy’s own savings, while £625 was billed to his horrified mother’s credit card.

The debt — which is equivalent to about $1400 USD — was racked up in all of about two weeks’ worth of gameplay. In the popular casual Facebook game, players can spend real money to accrue virtual currency and items. It’s a business that’s booming enough to garner the game’s developer Zynga an estimated valuation as high as $5 billion.

Neither Zynga or the mother’s credit card company HSBC responded positively to requests for refunds; the latter indicated only a criminal proceeding could trigger eligibility for getting the funds reinstated. A spokeswoman for HSBC indicated that had the expenditures been on a gambling site the escalating transactions would have raised warning flags, but since the purchases were technically Facebook Credits, they didn’t warrant suspicion.

PetVille Debuts on Facebook: Like FarmVille for Cute Pets

Just a couple of weeks ago, popular Facebook games maker Zynga trademarked the name PetVille, hinting at the theme for their next wildly popular casual game on the social network and other platforms (Myspace, iPhone, etc.). Today, Games.com reports that PetVille has launched.

Zynga is also the maker of FarmVille, which just yesterday was touted by a Facebook (Facebook) spokesperson as being bigger than Twitter in terms of an active userbase. The company followed up on the formula early last month with an aquatic-themed title dubbed FishVille, and now PetVille joins the ranks of of other popular pet simulation games like PlayFish’s Pet Society, which borrow mechanics from popular casual Nintendo titles like Nintendogs and Animal Crossing.

In PetVille, you create and customize your own sugary cute animals, feed and care for them, and earn through gameplay (or buy) the resources to decorate your home, buy better food, give gifts to other players and so on. In the tradition of other Zynga titles and other casual social games on Facebook, MySpace (MySpace) and elsewhere, the game mechanics are relatively simple to learn and the titles are easy to pick up and play for short stretches of time — leading to that addictive quality of reinforcement and reward that characterizes frequent revisitation of your virtual domain.

WARNING: New Facebook Chat Phishing Scam in Progress

Be on the lookout for a current spate of phishing tactics spreading on Facebook via the chat feature.

The attack employs similar methods to those used by past scams, using hijacked user accounts to send chat messages with a generic message and a link to a familiar-looking Facebook (Facebook) phishing page. Of course, if you actually click the link and enter your details on the fake Facebook login page, the hackers steal your e-mail and password and direct you on to the real Facebook.

Once your account has been compromised, hackers use it to perpetuate the scam by spamming your friends in chat. Automated bots handle the heavy lifting of pestering your contacts. At least one of the messages comes in the format “ROFL this you?!” with a phishing link, but this particular vulnerability may take other forms, so be sure to use caution when receiving any remotely suspicious chat messages from your Facebook contacts.

Facebook typically aggressively pursues phishing scams like this one, so hopefully it won’t be plaguing users for too much longer. Until then, please use caution when using chat. Have you spotted any variants of this scam?

Getting Your Aquarium Started

To have fast success in FishVille, you will need to pay attention to your aquarium for the first few levels. Here are the 4 main goals in the order which you should achieve them:

1. Start adding neighbors (you will need 8 by level 10).
2. Get to level 4 so that you can hold 30 fish in your tank.
3. Get to level 8 so that you can raise percula clownfish.
4. Get to level 10 so that you can hold 50 fish in your first tank and buy your second tank.

Don’t worry about coins. You will have a lot of extra coins if you follow this strategy and don’t waste too many coins on decorations You don’t need to pay for decorations because as you add neighbors you should get plenty of free gifts.
Get to level 4 as soon as possible

This is probably the most important part of getting a good start because you will expand your tank to 30 fish.
Raise and Sell Fast Fish ASAP

The Mini Dart Gobi is the most valuable fish when you are below level 10. They only take 5 minutes to grow.

Don’t bother with Sardines when you get to level 6. Sardines grow faster, but for some reason they give less experience and less coins than Mini Dart Gobis. As a general rule, faster fish give you more experience and coins because they need to be fed more often. I’m not sure why Sardines are the exception to this rule, but stay away from them.
Lay more Gobi eggs = Get more experience!

The fastest way to gain experience is to lay Mini Dart Gobi Eggs, feed them right away, and sell them as soon as they grow to level 1. DO NOT wait and sell them at level 2,3,4, etc… even though you will sell each fish for more experience… you will gain more experience by selling level 1 fish over and over because you get 2 experience points for each egg you buy. Therefore, buy more eggs and get more experience by selling the younger (level 1) junior fish ASAP.
Add neighbors while you wait for your Mini Dart Gobis to grow.

Be sure to add at least all of your friends who already play FishVille. You will need 8 neighbors by the time you get to level 10 and people don’t respond to requests right away, so you might as well get started with inviting your friends to be neighbors while you are in between feeding sessions.
I can’t sit in front of the computer until I’m level 4

Well, that’s unfortunate.. you won’t level up as fast, but here’s the best thing you can do: Figure out how long you will be away from your computer. If you’re going to be away for about 4 hours, raise Shy Hamlets. If you’re going to be away longer (about 12 hours) raise Hawaiian Hogfish. As a last option, you can raise Scooter Blennies. Try to avoid these fish. Not only are they ugly, but they take 24 hours to grow… when you sell a Scooter Blenny, it only gives you 11% as much experience (per grow time) a Mini Dart Gobi would give you.
Percula Clownfish – The 8 hour shift

Once you get to level 8, you can raise Percula Clownfish. These are beautiful fish that work out great for most of us who have set work or school schedules… and some of us even get 8 hours of sleep!
When you get to level 10 buy a second tank ASAP

By the time you get to level 10 you should have somewhere between 15,000 and 25,000 coins. You only need 10,000 to buy your first tank, but try to save coins (as well as dollars) for your second and third tank. At level 10 you can hold 50 fish in your first tank! Try to keep both of your tanks on the same schedule so that they are easy to maintain. Buy fish according to when you can feed them and keep as many tanks full of fish as possible at all times.
With 50 fish in a tank, it takes time to sell them.

At level 10, Junior Mini Dart Gobis are probably no longer the most efficient fish to raise in your tank of 50 fish. If you are actively watching your aquarium, Let your Mini Dart Gobis grow to age 4, then sell them. With 50 fish in your tank this is the fastest way to gain experience, since it takes a minute or two to sell them. The Red Spot Cardinal is a good fish to raise while you’re at the computer, but working on something else and checking every 15-30 min or so. If you plan to check every hour or so, raise Swissguard Basslets. Raise Royal Dottybacks (16 hour fish) or Percula Clownfish (8 hour fish) while you are away.

Boasting 24 million active users, Happy Aquarium is clearly the big fish to beat on Facebook. Now Zynga's dropped its hook to see if it can catch that many and more with the just-released FishVille. To test the waters, we decided to fillet both into categories to see which aquarium game swims... and which one sinks.

Add fish, water and glass and you have a viable fish tank. Happy Aquarium's starter tank is barebones as players use coins to add plant, coral, rocks and other submergible treasures although five different sand colors are free. FishVille's basic tanks feature a eye-catching background and a must more simplified list of tanks accessories. While we were going to give the category to FishVille because Happy Aquarium's eye-pleasing backgrounds are purchased with Pearls (earned but easier to buy with real money)... but FishVille's backgrounds are "Coming Soon." Happy Aquarium takes the candy by offering one awesome feature, full-screen play.

Winner: Happy Aquarium

Fish need food to grow and both games deal with those morsels in very different ways. Happy Aquarium requires players to purchase food whereas FishVille offers the ultimate in fish buffets, free food. If you like feeding fish all the time, FishVille is for you. But we like Happy Aquarium's 3 Day Feeder option that lets us kick back to watch and sell fish instead of feeding them all the time. But that options comes with a real price... you have to buy it with real money.

Winner: FishVille
Buying Fish

Selecting fish is never an easy task. Will they thrive? How long until they mature? How much can I sell them for? All are obvious questions. Happy Aquarium takes the less is more approach here by merely showing off the fish you can buy and how much it will cost. FishVille decided to answer all the big questions right up front as it lists the fish's name, time to maturity and how much money it will sell for.

Fish mean profit and making sure you make the most money and experience points is essential to continued growth. Yet this is where Zynga's FishVille packs in all the info you'll need to know before selling your fish.

While FishVille is newer, the gameplay is a bit closer to real fish tanks. You feed the fish, they swim around and you repeat the whole process again until you sell them or they die. But Happy Aquarium has a fin up on its competitor by allowing you to tap on the glass, coaxing two fish to mate and a training mode where you avoid water hazards for coin and points (and gets better as you teach them tricks).

Winner: Happy Aquarium

The Verdict: FishVille
Despite Happy Aquarium's clear dominance of the Fun category, FishVille feels like the result of Zynga really understanding the parts of its older games and how to make them better. Is this verdict set in stone? No way. CrowdStar really has a great product in Happy Aquarium, one that with a few refinements, might turn Zynga's next big tuna into chum.

P.S.: I'd like to gave props to Zynga for supplying this week's best way to humiliate a co-worker. I'm sooo going to make this into a T-shirt for the Christmas party.

MANILA - Facebook users beware. Psychologists are now probing a new kind of addiction called Facebook Addiction Disorder (FAD).

Psychologist Dr. Michael Fenichel, who has published numerous writings on FAD online, describes it as a situation in which Facebook usage "overtakes" daily activities like waking up, getting dressed, using the telephone, or checking e-mail.

"The amazing thing is that, like cellphones, nobody seems to notice the vast amount of time and energy - at work, at home, and now while on the move - people are devoting to Facebook. It has become a given," Fenichel writes in an online post titled "Facebook Addiction Disorder- A New Challenge?"

FAD could be classified under the more broad "internet addiction disorder" or internet overuse.

Academic papers have already posed theories on internet addiction and social networking addiction, and even less, cellphone addiction.

"Like most activities, moderation and integration are key. Those that may seriously label and treat FAD as a behavioral addiction will clearly need to use context in determining if a behavior has become demonstrably harmful to overall social, work, or face-to-face interpersonal efficacy," Fenichel added.

You are a Facebook addict if...

According to Joanna Lipari, a clinical psychologist at the University of California, Los Angeles who was interviewed for a CNN report, here are some signs that you are addicted to Facebook:

1. You lose sleep over Facebook. When using Facebook becomes a compulsion and you spend entire nights logged on to the site, causing you to become tired the next day.

2. You spend more than an hour a day on Facebook. Lipari said it is difficult to define how much is too much when it comes to Facebook usage, but that an average person need only spend half an hour on the site.

3. You become obsessed with old loves or exes you reconnect with on Facebook.

4. You ignore work in favor of Facebook. This means you do not do your job in order to sneak time on Facebook.

5. The thought of getting off Facebook leaves you in cold sweat. If you try going a day without Facebook and it causes you stress and anxiety, this means you need help.

According to the same report by Elizabeth Cohen, Senior CNN Medical Correspondent, Facebook addiction is not yet an actual medical diagnosis.

However, the report notes that several therapists in the United States have noticed a rise in the number of clients who get hooked on social networking, to the point of social dysfunction.

Facebook, launched by the world's youngest billionaire Mark Zuckerberg, has over 300 million users worldwide, half of whom log on to the site every day.

Further, about 2 billion photos and 14 million videos are uploaded on various Facebook pages a month and about 6 billion minutes are spent on Facebook a day, worldwide.

According to Willis Wee, founder of the social media and marketing blog Penn-Olson.com, this is twice as much time that people spend on Google.

We just broke the news earlier tonight that Facebook (Facebook) is launching a newer, simplified version of the Facebook platform, called Facebook Lite. This news comes only a day after Facebook made its blockbuster acquisition of FriendFeed and rolled out its Realtime Facebook Search. You may be asking yourself “what the heck is Facebook Lite?” or maybe “why would Facebook launch a stripped-down version of its website?” We’re here to answer those questions, and we have screenshots of the new Facebook Lite to help us out.

1. What is Facebook Lite?

A: It is a completely stripped-down version of the Facebook platform. From what we can tell, it is almost like a Twitter (Twitter) stream: you can see your most recent status updates and the updates of your friends. There is a left-hand navigation with four main categories: Wall, Info, Friends, and Photos & Videos. It does little more than that.

2. What does Facebook Lite look like?

A: Here is what we believe to be a screenshot of Facebook Lite, courtesy of Hacker News (Hacker News):

Very stripped down, very basic, very reminiscient of Twitter and FriendFeed (FriendFeed).

3. Is this Facebook integrating with FriendFeed?

4. What’s the point of Facebook Lite?

A: Speculation says it’s a direct assault on Twitter. Facebook continues to find ways to make itself competitive with Twitter. This is why Facebook has been launching features such as public profiles, profile fans, public status updates, and realtime search. Twitter is simple, so Facebook’s fighting back with the same.

However, we don’t know for sure. They may just be making a speedier version for slow connections. We’ll find out more from the Facebook team soon.

5. How can I access it?

A: It’s a limited test for only a subset of users. The fact that thousands, if not millions of users got the test notice was a bug. Most likely Facebook will open up the test to more users very soon, especially since everybody now knows about it.

Hi all, in this brief video, I will show you how to Plow, Plant and Harvest quickly and efficiently. just do as I do in the video, except you're gonna want to start out at the right corner of your farm and;

1.) Count up towards the top corner however many fields your comfortable with, I usually do 6 or 8.

2.) Start plowing/planting/harvesting back toward the right corner.

3.) Repeat steps 1 & 2, working your way towards the bottom corner of your farm.

4.) Do it all over again, starting above the first row of fields you began with.

Farm Town- my fave Facebook Game

Farm Town is yet another very interactive game! I love being in control of the whole process and the fact that my neighbors can co-assist me in my endeavors as I choose.

The whole concept in the game is not far off from the real life experiences of life on a thriving farm. It teaches the realization that you actually have to spend money to earn money!

I must warn anyone interested in trying Farm Town ... it is ADDICTIVE and FUN!

Farm Town is fun and realistic. I like it that the game challenges you to plant and harvest. If we had real disasters like fires and tornadoes that would destroy crops and the farm, the game would not be as popular as it is. Right now 5.1 million people are playing Farm Town and the game is still in beta and has only been available for play for three months!

Yes, Farm Town is really just beginning. I hear rumors that things like the barn and the wells will have functional use in the future and that animals will eventually play a role in the game, too.
